Hurricane Harvey Relief in Rockport
Update: The trip planned for the Thanksgiving holiday (11/22 - 11/26) had to be canceled. Our partners, Samaritan's Purse and an Amish organization, decided to cancel their relief activities planned for that week. As a result, we had to cancel our planned trip since all our activities were in coordination with them.
However, there will be more weekend trips scheduled for December. Stay tuned for the dates. Rohi Board Member Tom Erickson is coordinating groups to do debris clean up in coordination with Samaritan's Purse. Participants must be 14 or older due to the nature of the work.
Rockport was hard hit from Hurricane Harvey. Damaging winds of 160 m/p/h for over five hours destroyed about 50% of the homes. Samaritan's Purse is on the ground coordinating the relief effort. Much remains to be done, though the exact work to be done on the trip is still to be determined. Since we are coordinating with Samaritan's Purse we will be using their release forms and rules for the work sites.
