June Trip 2017

Review

Our Austin Trip Team & our local Reynosa Teams at the Community Center

Slideshow of Pictures from the Trip

We praise God for His abundant blessing on our June trip. We are so grateful for the 16 participants from Austin and the 20+ local volunteers from Reynosa that made it possible. We had four main activities: A well check clinic of the students of La Union Primary and High School, a STEM Science Day with the La Union Primary and High School, a two day Medical/Dental/Vision Clinic and a prayer walk.

Medical/Dental/Vision Clinic

This was our sixth clinic. Our medical/dental/vision teams saw over 150 patients! We had a team of four local medical doctors (Dr. Sergio, Dr. Joe Corona and his son Dr. Jorge Corona, and Dr. Julio Perez). These doctors have been so faithful in serving every time we have a clinic in these colonias. Because of their dedication, the residents of these communities have something akin to a primary care physican. We have a stocked pharmacy at their disposal with medicines we purchase from a distributor in Mexico.

This was our third dental clinic with Dr. Anais Olivares, our local dentist. Dental care is also of great need and we are incredibly appreciative of her heart to serve.

Dr. Brett Hamilton of Round Rock Family Eye Care, his wife Kristan, and their technician, Jonathan Miller, came and ran our third vision clinic in three years. The Hamiltons come annually to meet the vision needs of the community. They work tirelessly for the two day clinic and we are extremely grateful for their service.

STEM Days

This trip we partnered with Trashbots, an Austin non-profit, to run a STEM day at the La Union Primary and High School. This was our third STEM/Science day with the schools and our vision is to inspire a love of math and science and encourage them in their studies. Our hope is that they will pursue careers in math and science and escape the cycle of poverty. The team from Trashbots did a terrific job and we really hope to have them again.

Well Check Clinic

This was our second annual well check clinic of the students at La Union Primary and High Schools. We evaluated 85 students. We refer those students needing additional medical assistance to our full service clinic. But we also track the kids growth and overall health over time. Our goal is to facilitate a longitudinal study of the overall health of these students as we continue to have these well checks annually.

Prayer Walk

One of the most meaningful times of the trip is our prayer walk. We divide into teams and go door to door, distributing bags of toiletries, getting to know the residents, inviting them to our various activities, and most importantly, praying over them.

Your prayers made a tremendous difference. There are always bumps along the way, but we knew the Lord had gone before us and that He was with us.

Our next trip is planned for Thanksgiving. Please consider joining us as we seek to be the hands and feet of Jesus!
