Well Update
Another 2,200 Feet Installed and Electrical Update Complete at La Nopelera Well Because of a Donation from Mexico Missions.
We have exciting news in our quest to install another 12,000 feet of pipe to bring water from the new well to the residents in La Union colonia. Our partners in the colonia, Mexico Missions, run by Bruce and Paula Hepburn, funded the installation of another 2,200 feet of pipe. That installation was finished last week and the north side of the canal is complete. Approximately 9,000 feet of pipe installation remains for the residents on the south side of the canal and across the railroad tracks. You can still sponsor a family to get water with a $100 donation. More pipe will be laid on the Spring Break trip (March 16-20).
Mexico Missions also funded the installation of an electrical transformer at the La Nopelera well, next to David and Luzma’s house. Before, we were using solar panels and generators to run the pumps. This severely limited our ability to run the pumps long enough to obtain sufficient water to meet the needs of the residents, especially in the winter months with the shorter days. Now that the pumps have a grid energy source, we can run them enough to increase each family’s allotment.
We are so thankful for the Lord’s provision. He continues to answer our prayers and meet our needs. During our end of year giving campaign, ten families were sponsored to receive water via the pipeline installation ($1,000 donation) and we received sufficient funds to fulfill our monthly commitment to the Little Blue Schools and the Garcia’s through June.
The Lord is faithful when we submit our needs to Him. Though we still have fundraising needs for this year, as we reflect on how good God has been to us, we are confident He will continue to provide. If God is leading you to give, donating is easily done on our website (www.therohifoundation.org) or at Paypal (rohifoundation@earthlink.net).
Greg and Jennifer Gilbert will be leading a team, including several Mexican doctors, to provide a medical clinic during the Spring Break trip. They need to purchase antibiotics and other medicines. Prayerfully consider donating here.
Spring Break Trip Join us March 16th-20th
Has God put it on your heart to come with Rohi this Spring Break? We have an informational meeting coming up on January 31st after the second service (12:30 PM) at Grace Covenant Church in the Education Building. Coming to Reynosa with Rohi is a life changing experience. We encourage you to watch the video Chris and Crestina Hardie put together chronicling the impact of the trip via interviews conducted during the Thanksgiving trip.
We have an exciting Spring Break trip planned. We will be installing another 3,000 feet of pipe to bring water from the new well to residents’ homes. Jennifer and Greg Gilbert will be leading another medical clinic, with a special focus on hand washing hygiene. In that vein, we want to refurbish the bathrooms at the school and install better hand washing facilities, including adding a hot water heater for dish and hand washing use. But whatever your skills and abilities are, we want to utilize them. Please contact trip coordinator Cory Vessa (vessacory@hotmail.com) and we will work together to plug you into a project that will bless you and the colonia community.
Our collection focus for this trip is towels and toiletry items. There will be a collection box at Grace Covenant Church in the foyer. Truly any toiletry items would be a blessing to the residents (soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and paste, deodorant, baby wipes, etc.).
The cost of the trip is reasonable - $275 for adults and $175 for children. That covers your food and lodging and helps funds the service projects. Reynosa is only a six-hour drive from Austin. Adults must have passports, but children under 16 only need a birth certificate. Let this be the year your families’ eyes are opened to the great blessings we enjoy and the great needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ just across the border.
Register on our website (www.therohifoundation.org) or contact trip coordinator, Cory Vessa (vessacory@hotmail.com), with questions. Remember, the informational meeting is Sunday, January 31st at 12:30 at Grace Covenant Church in the Education Building.
